I've been into photography for 10 years, always chasing the newest, best digital camera. Then in 2025 I picked up my first film camera: a Rollei 35 SE, black paint, with a Sonnar 40mm f2.8 packed into that tiny body. And I fell in love with something new: not being able to check the shot right away, not knowing how it turned out until it came back developed.

At first, that uncertainty was the whole appeal. But things changed once the film came back developed and scanned from local camera shops — their "hi-res scans" were ruining my photos. For a while, I actually believed that was just what film looked like: flat, dull, lifeless colours. I told myself that was the deal, I should embrace the process and let go of the result, because the result was always going to be mediocre.

Then later that year, I discovered camera scanning, using a digital camera to "scan" negatives instead of a flatbed scanner. My first test scan changed everything. I sold my Fujifilm gear and invested in a proper camera scanning setup, plus a dedicated macro lens on the latest mirrorless system.

I started scanning for friends who shoot film, most of whom had been let down by the different yet “same” local labs — different by its branding, same for the quality. Every one of them was blown away by the difference.

That's why I'm offering this service, I want more people to see what film is actually capable of. Your colours shouldn't be washed out and lifeless. That's not film. That's a bad scan.
